Outside lights. You can control the lights outside your garage and walkway. With a wireless remote you can control the outside lights in any x-10 light from your car.
X-10 Controls
There are many different types. They control lights and appliances. They have "All Off" buttons and "All Lights On" buttons, and will dim all lamps (on lamp modules and light wall switches). "All on" is great when waking up at night after hearing a noise. Multi module controls are also available in recessed wall mount so that many lights can be controlled from one location.
Mini Controller
Controls up to 8 devices from one house code. With "All Off", "All
Lights On", Dim/Bright.
Maxi Controller
Controls up to 16 devices from one house code. With "All Off", "All
Lights On", Dim/Bright.
Programmable Mini Timer
Control up to 8 devices on one house code. It is a clock & timer
that can be programmed to turn on and off lights. For instance if you
need light in your bedroom to wake you or wake your children up. You
can turn on one light at a time in your bedroom to gently wake you up.
Doubles as a normal control with "All Off", "All Lights On" and Dim
lights.
Wireless remote
A garage door type of control that you can use to turn on your porch
light from the car and turn it off when you get in the car. There are
different types that will control up to 16 devices. A great safety
feature. A booster is also available to increase the range.
Some X-10 Modules and Switches
Lamp modules
They come in modules that plug into the 120v receptacle and the lamp
plugs into it. Also they come in a screw in-base, in other words the
base screws into the lamp and the light bulb screws in the base. All
lamp modules can also be dimmed from a remote. Lamp modules are for
incandescent lamps only. X-10 lamp modules can not control fluorescent
lights but appliance modules can power them on.
120 volt wall light switches
These replace the 120V wall switch. If the switch is controlling a 120
volt receptacle use a lamp module on the lamp. The reason is that if
anything other than a incandescent light is plugged in the receptacle
the device will destroy the X-10 switch. These switches are for
controlling incandescent lamps only! They come in a variety of types in
both ivory and white push button
and rocker switch. Some X-10 wall switches also are dimmers. Lights can
be
dimmed from the Mini and Maxi control. Control your out door lights
from
the car with the wireless remote.
Wall switches for fluorescent lights and
appliances
These are "appliance controls" from a light switch. Dimming is not
possible. For fluorescent lights, anything with a motor, (ceiling
fan) space heater. Use these when the wall switch controls
a 120 volt receptacle. Will respond to "All lights On" and "All
units Off".
Appliance modules
They can for example turn on the coffee pot just before you wake up.
Appliance modules are available in 120V, 15 A and 20A and 240v 20A in
ivory and white. You can also put appliances on them that can start a
fire, like space heaters and irons so that when "All Off is hit they
are safe. Also with one of the many programming controls these can be
programmed to go off at a regular time just in case someone is
distracted and leaves one of
them on.
Wired in modules
These are used when it is not possible to plug in the appliance or
light. They are wired into the circuit. The module has self adhesive
tape and is put in the appliance. This could be used for controlling
the ceiling fan and light separately, without running separate wires.
It could be also used to control certain lights in a string of lights
that are wired on to switch like outdoor lights. For example to
individually control outside lights
on one switch, so you do not have to light up the neighborhood to walk
to
the car. Recommended to be installed by a qualified electrician.
Low volt control modules
These are modules that is plugged into 120 volts and have low volt dry
contacts. This means that you can use the contacts for any low voltage
circuit like a phone line. You need wiring or electronics experience to
do the wiring. A typical wiring diagram of switching on and off a phone
line is being made.
120 volt and 240 volt receptacles
These are for controlling appliances and fluorescent lights. You can
control lights but it can not be dimmed and will not respond to "All
lights on". With the local control disabled receptacel you can also
turn off the TV or computer in the kids room! If they
do not have a control they will not be able to turn it on again.
To be able
to have complete remote control over the ON/OFF status of appliances.
Since
the local control has been disabled, kids cannot turn appliances that
you
have turned off remotely on again. Great for this receptacle is ideal
for
locations such as kids' rooms where you want controlling bedtimes, TV
watching,
music, etc. The receptacle also has he unique feature of a feed through
wire
that becomes live when the outlet is ON and turns off when the outlet
is
OFF. Use this wire to power other non-X10 receptacles. Responds to ALL
OFF.
Receptacles come in 120V 15A, and 20A and 240V 20A, duplex
receptacles with one X10 controled and local control disabled, 240 volt
are single receptacles.
Motion detector floodlight
Works like other motion detector flood lights but is controllable by
X-10. Great for walkways and back yards and in the garage.
Telephone interfaces
Connected to the telephone line and makes it possible to remote control
X-10 devices from any phone. Doubles as a normal control with "All
Off", "All Lights On" etc.
Furnace & Air conditioning control
Remote control of the temperature in your home. If your rooms have
individual controls then you can control each room separately each with
it's own X-10 control!
TV and home entertainment remotes
Programmable universal remotes that can control up to 8 devices with
X-10 remote control.
More complicated and expensive controls.
Programmable controls
A programmable control that is programmed by a PC and then works
independently, i.e. once programmed it independent and not connected to
the PC.
Voice activated self contained computer control
and PC controlled
You can for say example, Hal (you can name it anything you want) turn
on the hot tub and TV to channel 5. The self contained systems
ranges in price to the thousands and the PC based systems range in
price from about $300 they are not for the typical "do it yourself'er".
